We’re progressing well with uploading all the materials onto the web resource and we will be piloting the resource on the internet from January to April 2011. If you would like to take part in testing the resource in the new year, please contact us at q4s@worc.ac.uk.

What is the project about?

Q4S aims to develop a web resource to provide support for disabled young people undertaking courses in mainstream post 16 education. The resource will enable them to identify barriers to learning and provide them with strategies and practical resources to overcome these barriers.

As a result, Q4S will contribute to disabled students integration into mainstream training and subsequently into employment, thereby improving their life chances and enhancing the available pool of skilled labour.

The web resource and all project materials will be available in English, Bulgarian, Greek and Turkish.

How are we going to do this?

We will:

conduct research to identify the needs of young disabled students;
develop an online web resource with strategies for ensuring disabled students are more included on their courses;
include case studies to demonstrate how these strategies work in practice;
create a Self-Assessment Tool to help students identify their needs and to develop their employability and personal skills;
produce downloadable resource guides on ICT/e-Learning, Practicals, Visual Learning Activities and Group Work that can be used independently of the web resource

The event, entitled ' Students with Disabilities in Education and Training' took place on 2nd May 2011 at Tourist Hotels and Resort, Cappadocia. There were presentations from the Q4S project team, OZIDA, Disabled Students from throughout the EU, european VET providers and Universities in Turkey.

SKILL: National Bureau for Students with Disabilities
It is with great sadness that Skill: National Bureau for Students with Disabilities announced that it has ceased operating on 7th April 2011. Following a period of financial difficulty, Skill’s Board of Trustees has decided that it is no longer viable to keep the charity open.

The Chair of Skills' Board of Trustees, Peter Little OBE said "This is sad day for all of us. We had recently appointed an outstanding new Chief Executive and agreed a clear strategy to reduce our costs and turn around our finances, but in the end time was against us".
Skill is the only pan disability charity that focuses on promoting equality for disabled people in education, training and employment. It is hoped that others may step in to fill the gap this has left in the support available.
